Azodyl For Dogs Kidney Supplement

Learn all about Azodyl for dogs, the dosage for dogs, safety guidelines, side effects and more.

Azodyl is a supplement which aids pets with kidney problems. The substance is able to treat azotemia by reducing the level of nitrogen-containing compounds such as urea and creatinine in the blood. Azotemia is a medical condition which, if left untreated, may lead to other serious medical conditions such as uremia. Azodyl contains various forms of “good bacteria” which help to promote healthy functioning of the kidneys by providing a natural form of enteric dialysis (filtration).

Azodyl dosage for dogs

The dosage of Azodyl can depend on the size of your dog and his/her medical history. Please see the chart below for dosage information:

Weight of dog Pills per day

5 – 10 lbs 2

You should always administer Azodyl as whole tablets, avoid opening or crushing the pills. You should also administer them over the course of a day. For example, if your dog weighs over 10 lbs, you would give one pill every 8 hours for a total of 3 in a 24 hour period. It’s also important to keep these tablets refrigerated during storage. In some circumstances, your vet may recommend lifetime Azodyl treatment. Always follow the exact directions of the vet and seek approval prior to use.

Safety precautions

  • You should speak to your vet about Azodyl prior to use
  • Store Azodyl in the refrigerator, if left out in the heat order a new batch
  • Consider using more conventional kidney failure medication alongside Azodyl
  • Provide plenty of water for your pet throughout treatment
  • Do not open or crush the pills, administer them whole

Be sure to keep Azodyl refrigerated during storage, if left in the heat you may need to buy a new batch. Also consider speaking to your vet about conventional kidney failure medication. Azodyl may not always be enough by itself to completely relieve your pet’s symptoms, but is certainly a good aid alongside other medicine. Even though Azodyl is an OTC medication (meaning you don’t need a prescription) it’s a good idea to take your dog to the vet for professional advice.
