Dasuquin for dogs suffering from arthritis and joint pain

Learn about the uses of Dasuquin for dogs, including the recommended dosage, safety guidelines and more.

Dasuquin is a supplement containing active ingredients effective in the treatment of arthritis and joint pain. These ingredients include avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU), glucosamine and chondroitin. ASU has proven through studies to be effective in protecting cartilage and improving joint function. Aside from this, it potentiates the effects of glucosamine and chondroitin making them far more powerful. The formulation works by supporting cartilage production whilst inhibiting enzymes which break down cartilage in dogs.

  • Consider avoiding use in dogs with a shellfish allergy
  • Notify the vet if your dog suffers with diabetes or asthma
  • Avoid use in dogs with prostate cancer or dogs at high risk of developing the disease

Because glucosamine is often sourced from shellfish, you may choose to avoid administering this medication to dogs with a shellfish allergy. Despite this, side effects even in animals with such allergies are uncommon. You should also be aware that some studies have suggested glucosamine may alter blood sugar levels in the body though results are inconclusive. It is a good idea to talk to your vet before beginning treatment with this supplement.
